To Whom It May Concern,
New homes need inspections every
bit as much as resale homes but new homes need
inspections which are very different from standard
resale inspections. Nearly 20 years ago I began
to offer inspections focused specifically on the
unique needs of new home buyers and soon I found
myself considered the Washington D.C. area’s
new home inspection specialist. Some excellent
resale home inspectors began to recognize that
they were not prepared to do proper new home inspections
and referred those to me. Other inspectors sought
my advice on how to best approach various issues
related to new construction and code questions.
Over the years, as I looked for
other area inspectors to whom I could confidently
refer my clients when my schedule was full (or
when I retired, as I now have); Ted Collins in
Loudon County always stood out as one of the best.
He has deep knowledge of residential construction
including years of hands-on experience. He has
excellent familiarity with the building codes
including up-to-date certification as a code inspector.
He understands and addresses better than most
other inspectors the special needs of the new
home buyer.
Ted’s reports are even more
powerful tools for the home buyer than my reports
in that Ted’s reports include at least two
elements that my reports did not include:
- photos of important defects
- identification of specific code
sections violated
I consider it a privilege to give to Ted the
use of my old company name “New Home Inspections”;
and I strongly recommend his services to anyone
building or recently occupying a new home.
Sincerely, Neil Swanson
